Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the championship lead from his teammate by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, sitting 36 points behind Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, though minor, when he lost control at Turn Four during the early running.
The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before spinning across the escape zone, and was blessed to escape with just a light touch of the fence.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the final moments of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho turn leading to the final bend on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in 19th place, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
